The correspondence between the art historians Zdeněk Wirth and Antonín Matějček in 1915 documents in an interesting way the mentality of the people who established the foundations of the modern concept of art history studies in the Czech lands. In their letters, the two friends comment on contemporary events in the field, especially on articles that were published, and deal with behind-the-scenes negotiations about who would fill which positions in Prague institutions and plans for the future development of art history after the war was over
